The Final Countdown
2 weeks left of fun filled experiences
It is hard to believe there are only two weeks of school left. The next few weeks are full of fun opportunities for students to make memories and learn together. I feel so blessed to be a part of the Puffin team.
Please remember there is no school next Monday, May 25th, for Memorial Day. We will send report cards and assessment results home in the mail after school is out. Please make sure we have an accurate address in PowerSchool for your student.
The last day of school is Friday, May 29th. This is a normal school day with no early dismissal for grades 2-5. Families are welcome to join us for the 5th-grade tunnel at 1:15 pm on Friday to say goodbye to our fifth-grade students as they take flight to their next adventure.
The 2026-2027 School Calendar has been approved and updated on our district website. You can find the calendar here.
Crosstown Chess Tournament
The first annual Peterson Elementary Crosstown Chess Tournament was recently held, featuring 31 total students from both Peterson Elementary and the KIBSD homeschool program, AKTEACH. Six rounds were played out in a Swiss-style blitz tournament format. A good time was had by all, and many students are already looking forward to next year’s tournament. Congratulations to the top winners: (1) Will Filipowicz, (2) Zayn Jackson, (3) Ragnar Mortenson, and (4) Knox Thompson.
The event was facilitated by KIBSD Assistant Superintendent Damon Hargraves, AKTEACH Program Director Heidi Hargraves, volunteer judge Matt Altman, Peterson Elementary School Principal Rena Rankin, and Peterson School librarian Megan Nault.
