“Have a beary Friday Mr. Hargraves.” -actual quote from a Peterson Student
Bears are part of life here in Kodiak. “They were here before us,” someone cheerfully reminded me today. Our fences, our roads, and our other human boundaries don’t mean much to a Kodiak bear. Thank you to MILPOL and Base Security for keeping an extra close eye on the areas around Peterson Elementary today. Our Peterson Office is always aiming to communicate better, so please reach out to us if you have any concerns or suggestions.

38th Annual Stiles-Clark Auction
The Spouses Association of Kodiak hosts the Stiles-Clark Auction annually, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. This fundraising auction raises funds for our flagship project, Santa to the Villages. Funds raised also go towards Kodiak organization grants, as well as scholarships for two high school seniors and two military spouses continuing their education. Tickets are limited and go fast.
Salmon Eaters
The bears aren’t the only ones around here eating salmon. Our Peterson hot lunch served up a fresh salmon fillet for lunch today. It was baked and glazed to perfection!
Grand Slam Races
Peterson was represented well at the Grand Slam Races yesterday. Thank you to all who joined in on this community event.
Growing Chess Interest
Peterson students are playing chess like crazy! At most of the lunch recesses this week, Peterson students could be seen playing chess on the new picnic tables out on the playground. One teacher commented, “it feels like we have a bunch of New York City chess hustlers out here!”
